When you purchase at a business you pay your taxes at the poaint of sale, your reciept is your proof. Its the private sale thing where a individual is unlikely to have a business # and does not collect or remit the tax. Folks buy alot of stuff from one another with cash however when you register anything now a days they're looking for thier piece of the pie so keep that in mind when your purchasing.  sad3

If you buy a used boat privately and attempt to transfer the registration, you WILL get an HST bill.

They are triggered by hull numbers which you must transfer for existing numbers or obtain by law for out of province buys, they will get you for sure. They can also be triggered by boat trailer registrations apparently.
