Pleasantville Signs Summer Sizzler, Aug. 14th @ Molega Lake
« on: August 05, 2016, 01:53:05 AM »
Note the lake change; due to low water the tourney has been changed from Ten Mile Lake to Molega Lake.
This is the last weekend for pre-fishing, so get out there and find those fish!
Due to the low, very warm water, people fishing the tournament should consider bringing ice for the livewells.
Boat parking will be at a premium on the day of the tournament, due to the increasingly narrow boat launch area. Some people may want to consider the option of launching, then moving the boat up to the municipal beach and parking it there, and then walk back to the launch area.
Hopefully we'll get some rain before the 14th.

There were a few decent fish caught today, but the water is very low. There was a big log at the exit of the boat launch area that was shallow enough to snag my trolling motor, but my fishing partner was able to pry it up from the bottom, and we got a rope on it and towed it out of the area.
I did manage to wreck my lower unit case today. :angry2:

I read your message. I really feel bad if you damaged you lower unit. Nobody needs that kind of luck. Hope you can get it fixed without too big a cost. It is a fact of life fishing our lakes.

Thanks Millage.
It's looking like it will need an entire lower unit assembly, so I'll be forced to put it through insurance and pay the deductible.
The good news (if there is any) is that there's one in stock in Ontario, so it should be ready for next weekend.

May want to have someone there telling people not to park their boats on the shoreline in the narrows where we launch as that will create major problems IMO.  Barely wide enough to get boat out through.  If people have boats sitting on the bank there may not be enough room to get boat out past.  Also because of all the grass, mud, weeds, and whatever else people may want to trim motor out of the water til out in deeper water.  Wouldn't want an intake to get clogged with weeds when taking off with big motor.  Not a very favorable place to launch a nice big bass boat right now but unfortunately have no choice.  Hope everyone uses common sense and takes care running the lake.

Cody and I were up on Friday, and correct, boats will need to angle park or parallel park along the channel. If parked at a 90 degree angle to the bank, then other boats won't get by.  As well, we should encourage people not to park immediately to the left or right of where the boats slide off the trailer, so there will be room to turn the boats around to head out of the channel.
On the good side, it looks like there may be better parking out to the right at the end of the channel due to the low water. And as mentioned earlier, some people may want to park their boat at the beach, and walk back to the launch for the number draw.
Still much better boat parking than at Ten Mile.
We will work through it.

Copied from Cody's tournament mailer:

Good evening SSBM,
We are approaching our Molega Lake tournament which takes place this Sunday. It appears that changing the tournament was likely inevitable due to new forest fire activity surrounding Ten Mile Lake.
A few important announcements as we head into Sunday's tournament. Most of these we will cover again in the morning:
- For those who are not aware, the lake level is extremely low. If you are unfamiliar or unsure of the water level anywhere you are driving, please use extreme caution.
- We will be holding registrations, morning meeting, and the weigh-in at the municipal beach just shortly up from where we launch. This will alleviate congestion at the launch and also allows us to release the fish in a much better environment.
- Any boats who wish to beach their boats near the launch should not do so in the immediate launching area so boats are able to maneuver.
- Any boats who wish to beach theirs boats near the launch should also beach them at minimum 45 degrees to ensure a clear path for boats to come in and out.
- Please ensure you register early, we will look to do the meeting and boat draw no later than 6:45am to allow time for everyone to get in their boats and be prepared for blast off. Also, when you register, please come with full payment and avoid two people making two payments at separate times. This causes confusion and we will not accept entries unless payment is made in full.
- It is likely that we will not be able to beach all of the boats on the municipal beach. Therefore we would ask anyone who weigh theirs fish to proceed back to their boats and load up.
I believe that's all folks! We will see you this Sunday.
-Cody

It was a tough day of fishing today with the low, warm water, and the storm systems rolling through, but in the end Gary Smith and Paul Feener found a few good ones.
